Malaysia isn't there (yet — more on that in a future post), but Asia has its biggest-ever World Cup representation: Japan, South Korea, Australia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Uzbekistan. Jordan and Uzbekistan are making their World Cup debuts — proof that the expanded format is opening doors for Asian football.
Some Asian fixtures to circle, all in MYT:
South Korea vs Czechia — already played Friday morning; catch the rest of Korea's matches at 9am on 19 June and 25 June
Tunisia vs Japan — Sunday 21 June, 12:00 PM (perfect Sunday lunch match)
Japan vs Sweden — Friday 26 June, 7:00 AM
Jordan vs Argentina — Sunday 28 June, 10:00 AM (a debutant against Messi — what a story)
Uzbekistan vs Colombia — Thursday 18 June, 10:00 AM
Egypt vs Iran — Saturday 27 June, 11:00 AM
If these teams can reach the World Cup, the question every Malaysian fan should be asking is: what will it take for Harimau Malaya to join them in 2030 or 2034? (We'll dig into that in an upcoming post — the answer starts at grassroots level, on pitches just like ours.)
Round of 32: 28 June – 4 July (mostly 1am–10am MYT kick-offs)
Round of 16: 4 – 8 July
Quarter-finals: 10 – 12 July — including one very friendly 9am Sunday kick-off on 12 July
Semi-finals: Wednesday 15 July and Thursday 16 July, both at 3:00 AM MYT
Third-place match: Sunday 19 July, 5:00 AM MYT
THE FINAL: Monday 20 July, 3:00 AM MYT at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey
Yes, you read that right. The final is at 3am on a Monday morning. Apply your leave now — you have more than a month's notice. Consider this your official reminder.
A month of football this intense needs strategy. Here's ours:
Pick your battles. You cannot watch all 104 matches and survive. Choose 2–3 graveyard-shift matches a week, and load up on the breakfast-window games instead.
Nap like a pro. A 9pm–1:30am sleep block before a 2am or 3am match beats staying up. Trust us.
Watch together. Football at 3am alone is suffering. Football at 3am with your team is a memory. Round up your futsal kakis.
Don't just watch — play. This is the real secret. Nothing cures World Cup fever like getting on the pitch yourself. Watched Argentina carve open a defence at 9am? Book an evening slot with your friends and try that one-two yourself. The matches end by lunchtime most days — your evenings are wide open.
That's our motto for the next five weeks. The World Cup only comes around every four years, but the buzz it creates is the perfect reason to get your gang back on the pitch every week.
Our football and futsal courts across the Klang Valley — Puchong, KSL Klang, Rimbayu, Bandar Seri Coalfields, Eco Grandeur and more — are open and ready for your post-match kickabouts, with evening and night slots available daily.
⚽ Book your pitch now at metahub.my — takes less than two minutes.
